Day 1: Beijing

Arrive at any time. Enjoy a Peking duck dinner with the group.

Arrive in Beijing at any time today as there are no planned activities. The group will meet at 6pm. Please check for a notice from your Tour Leader. Following the meeting, we head out into the city to eat some delicious Beijing delights with your new group. Our dinner tonight is the traditional specialty, as we enjoy some delicious Peking Duck.

Arrival Day and Welcome Meeting:

The adventure begins tonight. Feel free to explore before your welcome meeting, but make sure you’re back in time to meet the group. After introductions, your CEO will review the details of your tour. Please note that normal check-in times apply at our start hotels, but you can usually store your luggage for the day if you arrive early.

Day 2: Beijing

Included visits to Forbidden City, hutong tour, Great Wall, and Temple of Heaven.

Day 2 takes us exploring the Forbidden City and its corridors and buildings. Stand in the heart of Tiananmen square, and find out about the significance of these places to modern day Chinese. In the afternoon, visit the Temple of Heaven, which is a refuge for Chinese retirees who practice water calligraphy, tai chi, or walk pet crickets here. Tour the temple itself and learn the history of this intricate structure, historically used only twice a year.

Forbidden City Tour:

Our CEO will steer around crowds and help make the most of a visit to the Forbidden City.

Tiananmen Square:

Explore one of the world’s largest public squares, home to the Monument to the People’s Heroes and the Great Hall of the People.

Temple of Heaven:

Explore the stunning Temple of Heaven, which was built during the rule of the Ming dynasty. Learn more about the history and significance of this place, often referred to as the symbol of Beijing.

Day 3: Beijing

Set out early for the Great Wall at Mutianyu. Spend the day wandering from tower to tower along this magnificent feat of construction. Possibly bring a picnic lunch and eat it atop the wall.

Great Wall Mutianyu Visit:

Climb the rolling hills of Huairou County at Mutianyu, one of the best-preserved sections of the Great Wall. Enjoy scenic views as the wall winds along mountain ridges, and take brag-worthy photos of the wall from any of the 22 towers.

Free Time:

Free time in Beijing, with plenty of optional activities. Explore the city or take in a cultural show in the city.

Day 4: Beijing/Xi'an

After a free morning in Beijing, board a comfortable overnight sleeper that arrives into Xi’an early the following morning.

Experience overnight travel like a local. Sit back and get some well-earned (and likely much-needed) rest en route to your next stop.

There’s plenty to see and do in Beijing, and we wanted to make sure that you had some time to take it all in. Feel free to relax or try optional activities like shopping at the Silk Market, visiting the Summer Palace, and taking a hutong tour. Your CEO has more ideas if you need them. Just ask!

Day 5: Xi'an

Cycle the city walls and visit the Muslim Quarter.

Arrive into Xi’an in the morning, and after taking time to refresh in the hotel, rent bikes and head out onto the city walls. Xi’an is surrounded by well-preserved walls, and because these are flat, its easy to cycle around them. After our trip, walk around the Muslim Quarter, packed with stalls and shops.

Cycling Xi’an City Walls:

Rent a bike and cycle the Xi’an city walls. The walls – built for protection in the Tang Dynasty and expanded in the Ming dynasty –are a great way to absorb local history. Hop off where you like and admire the views as you pedal along the 12m (39 ft) wide wall, which takes about 2 hrs to cycle along.

Muslim Quarter Orientation Walk:

Enjoy a walk around Xi’an’s Muslim Quarter with our CEO, and be introduced to favourite streets, artists, chefs or food stalls in the quarter. Each CEO offers a unique perspective. Get a better feel for the district and have plenty of time to roam around on your own, shopping and eating along the way.

Day 6: Xi'an

Visit the famous Terracotta Warriors.

Visit the famous Terracotta Warriors, built over 2,000 yrs ago to protect the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, approximately 1 hr from town. Over 6,000 life-size warriors have been discovered. Spend half a day exploring this archaeological wonder before we return to Xi’an for the evening.

Terracotta Warriors Guided Tour:

Take a guided tour of the Terracotta Warriors where more than 8,000 clay soldiers and hundreds of replica horses and chariots stand in three pits. Learn why the Emperor Qin Shihuang commissioned the statues to serve as his army in the afterlife and how they were discovered. Spend a half-day exploring this archaeological wonder.

Day 7: Xi'an/Chengdu

After a free morning in Xi’an, fly to Chengdu in the evening. Visit the panda breeding centre and the ancient town of Huanglongxi. Enjoy a dinner of Sichuan hotpot.

Wander around walled centre of Xi’an, or relax and watch the people walking around the city.

Day 8: Chengdu

Watch the noble giant panda at the Giant Panda Breeding Center and check out the historic town of Huanglongxi.

In the morning, visit the Giant Panda Breeding Center. In the afternoon, explore the historic town of Huanglongxi. The Qing dynasty buildings in the town have been preserved in their original style, and it retains the charm and style of years passed. Wandering around Huanglongxi can make you feel that you have gone back in time.

Giant Panda Breeding Center:

This is the best opportunity to see the giant pandas up close and personal. To do this we have an early start, but this is to fit in with the pandas’ schedule. The pandas eats one type of bamboo, and in large quantities. However, these noble animals get up early to eat, and once they have eaten, then they prefer to sleep for the rest of the day. But, getting here early, we can see them at their best.

Town of Huanglongxi Visit:

Explore the Qing dynasty buildings in this historical town, which have been preserved in their original style — it retains the charm of years passed. Wandering around Huanglongxi can make you feel that you have gone back in time.

Day 9: Chengdu/Yangshuo

Enjoy a free morning to explore Chengdu. Fly to Guilin and transfer to Yangshuo.

Enjoy a free morning in Chengdu before we fly to the city of Guilin. From the airport, transfer 2 hrs to the village town of Yangshuo. This will undoubtedly rate as one of your favorite spots in China. The scenery is spectacular, surrounded by limestone karsts with a river running through the rice fields.

Wenshu Monastery:
Chengdu

Wenshu Monastery definitely worth a visit during your stay in Chengdu. The monastery was first built in Tang dynasty (618-907). More than 500 pieces of painting and calligraphy by celebrities are stored in this monastery. The exquisite garden and solemn halls are other highlights of this place.

Day 10: Yangshuo

Enjoy an included Li River cruise and free time for a variety of activities in Yangshuo.

Enjoy a cruise along the Li River, which snakes its way through the region. The unique landscape, with karst peaks towering over the river and poking through the mist, makes for a beautiful ride. Along the way, keep a lookout for local fishermen, who use coromrants to catch fish.

There is lots of free time in Yangshuo as there are a wide variety of activities that you and your family might want to do.

During free time visit a cooking school in a picturesque setting, do tai chi by the river, learn calligraphy and painting, shop in the local markets, walk along the river, swim, or just spending time soaking up the scenery in one of the many tempting cafes around town.

Take a cycle ride through the fields with a local guide, and be rewarded by a delicious local lunch. Try beer fish, garlic fried water spinach, and stuffed aubergine!

We have included the services of a 2nd CEO here in Yangshuo to give parents and kids time to enjoy different activities. There will be something for all of you to talk about at the end of the day.

Li River Cruise:

Enjoy the Li River cruise, a centrepiece of any trip to northeastern Guangxi Province. Take in breathtaking scenery and a taste of a life far removed from the concrete metropolis. See gorgeous karst mountains peeking out each river bend, water buffalo patrolling fields, and locals reaping rice paddies. Greet school kids and fishermen as they float by on bamboo rafts. Be sure to bring your camera for this popular water tour.

Yangshuo Guided Cycle Tour:

Follow the guide and cycle over the flat(ish) landscape past rice paddies, local farmers, and water buffalo. Marvel at the limestone karsts and hear the legends of how they came to be.

Day 12: Yangshuo/Hong Kong

After a free morning in Yangshuo, transfer to Guilin and catch the train to Hong Kong. Enjoy an orientation walk of the city.

Relax in Yangshuo before transferring to Guilin and across the border to Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, enjoy an orientation walk around town.

Day 13: Hong Kong

Take the Star Ferry across to visit Victoria Peak, and check out the evening lightshow in Kowloon.

Take the Star Ferry across the water to climb Victoria Peak, and admire the spectacular views over the whole city. In the evening, head down to the harbour front to watch the incredible lightshow — it illuminates the entire skyline of Kowloon.

Star Ferry:

The Star Ferry is as famous a landmark in Hong Kong as they come. Officially becoming the Star Ferry in 1898, it carries over 26 million people a year between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. Enjoy the short trip amongst the historic boats.

Victoria Peak with Tram:

Take the tram to the top of Victoria Peak and look out over the sparkling skyline.
